Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to determine if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, please avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the site can download and extract location data from images posted publicly.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to re-enter your details for future comments. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we will also set up several cookies to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, and screen options cookies last for one year. If you select “Remember Me,” your login will persist for two weeks. Logging out will remove these cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be stored in your browser. This cookie includes no personal data and simply indicates the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after one day.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you had visited the other website directly.
These external sites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with their content — including tracking if you have an account and are logged in to that website.
Email marketing
If you subscribe to our newsletter (The Forest Dispatch), we collect your name and email address to send you occasional updates about The Timber Walk, new accommodations, and related news.
We use Campaign Monitor to manage and send our email communications. When you subscribe, your information is transferred to Campaign Monitor for processing in accordance with their Privacy Policy. Campaign Monitor stores data securely and does not use your information for its own marketing purposes.
Our newsletter signup forms collect only the data you provide. We do not share or sell subscriber lists.
We may track whether emails are opened and which links are clicked to help us improve our communication and content. This information is aggregated and never used to profile individual users.
You can unsubscribe from our emails at any time by clicking the “unsubscribe” link included in each message. Once you unsubscribe, your data is deleted or anonymized within Campaign Monitor’s systems after a short retention period.
We collect email consent in accordance with Canada’s Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL). You will only receive marketing messages from us if you have explicitly opted in or if a valid business relationship exists under CASL guidelines.

We do not export or combine this information with data from our website.
Each social platform collects its own analytics and may use cookies or tracking tools independently of us. You can review their respective privacy policies here:
