The Person Behind The Timber Walk
Hi, I’m Daniel Mark.
The Timber Walk started with a piece of forest in a quaint rural subdivision, a lot of ideas, and a belief that there was an opportunity to create something special in this quiet corner of New Brunswick.
I’ve spent much of my adult life building things in one way or another.
For more than two decades, I served as an officer in the Canadian Armed Forces, where I learned a lot about leadership, responsibility, planning and, perhaps most importantly, how to keep moving when things don’t go according to plan.
Outside of the military, I spent more than a decade working on residential property redevelopment—buying, improving, renovating and reimagining properties.
Those experiences have shaped the way I approach The Timber Walk.
Creating a good place isn’t just about putting up walls and installing fixtures. It’s about understanding a property, working with what you have, paying attention to the details, solving problems as they arise, and being willing to do things properly even when the easier option is right in front of you.
The Timber Walk is the biggest expression of that philosophy yet.
A different kind of retirement project
The Timber Walk isn’t something I’m trying to turn into a massive resort or a full-time corporate operation.
It’s my retirement project.
I wanted something meaningful to build, something that would keep me engaged and connected to the community, and something I could develop at my own pace.
That means The Timber Walk is intentionally small and owner-operated. I’m not trying to fill every available acre, maximize the number of guests or turn it into a 365-day-a-year operation.
Instead, I’m building something I can enjoy creating and eventually enjoy sharing with other people.
The plan is to operate The Timber Walk as a slower, part-time business—one that fits into retirement rather than taking it over.
That also means I can take my time.
I can build things properly. I can work with local tradespeople. I can make changes when something isn’t quite right. And I can let the property develop naturally instead of rushing to get everything finished at once.
Why this place?
There are plenty of beautiful places to stay in New Brunswick.
I didn’t want to build another one simply because I thought the market needed another place to sleep.
I wanted to create something smaller, more personal and more intentional.
The Timber Walk is being developed as a small forest retreat—a place where folks can get away from the noise of everyday life, spend time together, and enjoy the simple pleasure of being somewhere beautiful without having to leave the property to find something to do.
Building it from the ground up
The Timber Walk isn’t a finished resort that I’m unveiling to the world.
You can follow along on Facebook and watch as it’s being built.
The driveway, the well, the septic system, the workshop, the cottage, the cabins, the boardwalk and everything else are being developed one piece at a time.
That’s intentional.
Because this is a retirement project rather than a race to open a resort, I’m comfortable taking the time to get it right.
There will be mistakes along the way. There will be unexpected costs, weather delays, construction problems and plenty of decisions that look much easier on paper than they are in the forest.
That’s part of the story.
And if you’ve been following The Timber Walk for a while, you’ve probably seen some of that story already.
The people who help build The Timber Walk are part of its story too. From excavation and drilling to electrical, carpentry, landscaping and everything in between, this place exists because a lot of skilled people are putting their work into it.
That’s something I don’t take for granted.
Come along for the build
One of the things I’ve enjoyed most about creating The Timber Walk has been sharing the process.
Not just the finished photographs, but the muddy driveway, construction material delivery, decisions, progress and occasional setbacks that come with actually building something.
Eventually, you’ll be able to stay here.
For now, you can watch it take shape.
That’s The Timber Walk.
And I’m Daniel Mark.
I’m the person behind it, and I’m building it one piece at a time.
