Construction of The Timber Walk is continuing.

There has been considerable discussion recently about my plans for The Timber Walk, and I believe it is important to clearly explain where things stand.

I will continue construction of Birchwood Cottage. As was always the plan, before proceeding with any additional development or construction, I will obtain the approvals and permits required by the applicable authorities.

I understand that some of my neighbours disagree with my plans. They have every right to do so. They have the right to express their concerns, attend meetings, communicate with government officials and participate in the regulatory processes available to them. I respect those rights.

I also have rights as a property owner. Subject to applicable laws, regulations, approvals and permits, I have the right to pursue the development and use of my property for the purposes I have planned. My neighbours’ disagreement does not, by itself, prevent me from exercising those rights.

I intend to exercise those rights responsibly and in accordance with the applicable requirements.

I have invited neighbours who have concerns about The Timber Walk to speak with me individually, and that invitation remains open. To date, I have not had the opportunity to speak directly with any of the individuals who attended the recent meeting about the project. I would welcome the opportunity to hear their concerns directly and, where possible, address them.

I will not be bullied or intimidated into abandoning a project in which I have invested substantial financial resources from personal savings, and countless hours of hard work, and which I intend to develop responsibly and in accordance with the applicable requirements.

At the same time, I ask that opposition to The Timber Walk remain respectful and lawful. People are entitled to criticize my plans and to oppose them. They are not entitled to harass, threaten, intimidate or unlawfully interfere with me, my property, my guests or my business.

Where conduct crosses that line, I will document it and report unlawful conduct to the RCMP or other appropriate authorities where warranted. If unlawful conduct interferes with my ability to peacefully enjoy my property or operate my business, I will pursue legal action where necessary to protect my rights and interests.

I will also defend my reputation. Legitimate criticism and good-faith disagreement are entirely acceptable. However, where false or materially misleading statements about me or my business cause or threaten to cause legal harm, I will pursue the legal remedies available to me, including legal action where warranted.

Despite our disagreements, I will continue to treat my neighbours with kindness and respect. I ask that they extend the same courtesy to me.

I believe it is possible to disagree strongly while still being good neighbours. My hope is that, moving forward, we can focus less on conflict and more on respectful communication and peaceful coexistence.

I remain committed to developing The Timber Walk responsibly, and to being a good neighbour while doing so.
